What is Sierra Bakehouse?
Pastry chefs Kristy and Daniella own and run Sierra Bakehouse in Truckee, California.
Kristy, co-owner of the Sierra Bakehouse, is originally from Reno and has lived in Truckee for 17 years. She lives with her husband and two children. Their family leads an active lifestyle, and are happy to be part of the Truckee community and to have a business here.
"Everyone is really supportive of our small business, especially as we try to get through COVID."
Daniella, the bakery's other co-owner, is originally from Connecticut and has experience working with Ritz Carlton. She hikes with her dog on the weekends and loves the active, outdoor lifestyle that Truckee offers.
What is a typical week like for you?
On Fridays, Kristy and Daniella greet the bakery's clientele with fresh croissants, pastries, macaroons, and other tasty treats.
The Sierra Bakehouse team works hard all week to get ready for Fridays. It's all hands on deck, with each team member baking, doing dishes, and more. On Tuesday they get started crafting the dough that will be the building blocks for Friday's treats, like cookies and croissants. On Wednesday the team spends time scaling out bread, and Thursday and Friday are filled with baking to get ready to open at 8 am on Friday.

What inspired you to found Sierra Bakehouse?
The Sierra Bakehouse was created from Kristy and Daniella's shared love for the art of baking.
"We wanted an environment that we can control, the opportunity to work and make the things we wanted to bake with the best ingredients."
Owning their own business allows Kristy and Daniella to work a schedule that suits their lifestyles, allowing them to live and work on their own terms.
"This is a business where you really have to put in the time and the effort, when you’re doing it for yourself it’s a lot more gratifying."
