Paul Comstedt, Kip Johnson and Derek Hammeke are co-owners of Amplify Gymnastics, a youth-centered facility in Joplin, Mississippi. Comstedt explained to FOX Business that while he had never anticipated that gymnastics would be his career, he eventually realized that the power of the mentor relationships that develop between children and coaches was something he wanted to help flourish.
Another unexpected event though was the tornado that ripped through Joplin in 2011. According to Comstedt, one month after the storm, he and his co-owners were facing the decision of whether or not rebuilding was a viable option. However, the push was made when they saw that families needed a way to return to normalcy, and Amplify was a positive outlet for that.
Along with help from the Small Business Administration and a local disaster recovery center, Amplify reopened in February 2012, and currently has a waitlist of 200 children.
When asked why he decided to rebuild, Comstedt simply posed his own questions in return.
"To reach that final point and then to have everything back at square one or worse? To motivate without even having seen the business open?"
Fine-tune an insurance policy that is as unique as your company
A youth gymnastics center is not a typical business. However, even unique organizations are susceptible to unforeseen events. Everything from general commercial property insurance to commercial auto policies can be beneficial in recovery efforts. Locations, for example, can have a major impact on which policy is best. Tornadoes affected Amplify, but are less likely to be an issue for California-based businesses.
For companies that are unsure where to begin in their insurance process, they are well-advised to partner with commercial insurance specialists. These professionals are able to work outside of a standard "one size fits all" mindset, as few businesses fit into a generic mold.
